Which type of mushroom should I grow? This is a question many people ask themselves before they venture into mushroom growing in Zimbabwe. It was a choice between button and oyster, but that’s a thing of the past starting from now going into the future as Mushtella is out to revolutionise the mushroom industry in many ways.
One of the ways is the introduction of new types of mushrooms and also increase variety within one type of mushroom. As an example:shiitake- there are a number of strains available throughout the world which have different shades and growing parameters and many other factors. Mushtella’s first step is to bring in new types and then others factors later. Mushtella is also looking at partnering with mushroom farms to increase these types. There are costs involved in importing and then doing further research and development, Mushtella seeks technical and financial partners to achieve this.
We have introduced the following types and strains:
Shiitake (Lentinula edodes)
We will introduce the following before the end of the year:
Agaricus birtoquis (warm weather button)
And many others
We are introducing mainly types we had like to grow, however we will import other types as per growers request bearing in mind the afore mentoned partnerships.
In an effort to revolutionise the industry we are giving free spawn to all existing growers for them to try out. Yes you heard me right we are giving out free spawn. May growers note that such spawn will be given when we have excess capacity and prior notice has to be given, also note that Mushtella reserves the right to refuse to give such spawn and we will stop the offer at any time without notice.
Here is a chance for you to start growing other types.
Mushtella is also giving consultancy in the production of these mushrooms. If you are new in the industry do your research before choosing which type to grow, those already in the industry know the market better.
Mushtella also sells kits, currently we sell kits for the following:
Oyster (pleurotus ostreatus)
King oyster (pleurotus eryingii)
Golden oyster (pleurotus citrinopleatus)
Happy mushroom growing zimbabweans.
